May your autumn season be filled with peace, warmth, and coziness — and of course, succulent pumpkin planters!
I love fall (who doesn’t?). It’s when everything turns golden and pumpkin-spiced, and it’s the perfect time for a quick, easy fall craft that doubles as beautiful autumn home decor.
This project combines two of my favorite things: pumpkins and succulents. It’s simple enough for a cozy afternoon DIY and pretty enough to use as Thanksgiving table decor or a fall centerpiece.
(Pro tip: these planters also make amazing hostess gifts!)
LEARN HOW TO MAKE SUCCULENT PUMPKIN PLANTERS

WHAT YOU NEED for DIY SUCCULENT PUMPKIN PLANTERS
- A few small pumpkins in varying colors and sizes (odd numbers group together best for styling)
- About 3 small succulents per pumpkin
- A pumpkin carving knife (makes it so much easier to cut into those mini pumpkins)

Instructions
- Prep your pumpkins.
Choose mini pumpkins with just enough room inside to snugly fit your succulents. If you use larger pumpkins, fill most of the cavity with paper towels, bubble wrap, or anything bulky to take up space — succulents don’t need much soil to thrive. - Cut and clean.
Carefully cut a hole around each pumpkin stem, about 1.5 times the diameter of your succulent’s pot. Scoop out the seeds and pulp. - Prep your succulents.
Gently remove each succulent from its pot and shake off about two-thirds of the soil. It should crumble away easily. - Arrange and plant.
Combine about three succulents per pumpkin, mixing different heights and textures for a full, balanced look. Nestle them into the pumpkin cavity and press them in firmly. - Care and display.
Lightly mist with water and keep your planters in a bright, sunny spot. If the succulents look limp or translucent, they need more light.
To make your pumpkin planters last longer, store them in the fridge overnight — it helps keep them fresh for up to a week or more!

WHERE TO DISPLAY YOUR SUCCULENT PUMPKIN PLANTERS
Add a touch of autumn charm anywhere around your home:
- On your mantel
- As a Thanksgiving centerpiece
- On your kitchen island or coffee table
- By your front door or porch steps
- On your desk for a pop of seasonal color
