M&M flowers might be the cutest treat you can make and eat. They are also perfect for celebrating special occasions like Easter, Mother's Day, bridal showers, or baby showers.
But there's no need to wait for a special occasion for these little pieces of art to bloom in your kitchen; they are a fun activity to do with (or without) your kids any day of the week.
They look like little perfected masterpieces and yet take only a few minutes to make.

INGREDIENTS FOR M&M FLOWERS
Mini white chocolate chips are the "glue" that holds the flower together. I like this brand, it's free from 14 allergens. (Pssst, their mini dark chocolate chips contain only two ingredients!)
M&M candies form the center and the petals of the flowers. Use the original M&M candies for this recipe. I have not tried this with peanut M&Ms, but I'm guessing their shape would not make such a perfect flower. See below for the many color variations and flavor possibilities!

HOW TO MAKE M&M FLOWERS
STEP ONE
Sort the M&Ms in the following ways so that once you start to assemble the flowers, it is super quick and easy to do so:
- Turn all the candies upside down with the M&M logo facing down (unless you want to see the logo on your flowers).
- Pull six of one color for the petals and one of a contrasting color for the center of the flower. I arranged them into the floral shape to ensure I had enough candies for each flower.
Doing this preliminary sorting helps you quickly create the flowers while the chocolate is hot. If you sort while you create each flower, the chocolate might cool and solidify (which will make reheating necessary).
Here's an image of all my candies sorted and ready for assembly:

STEP TWO
Melt the mini chips in a double broiler until smooth.
If you don't have a double boiler, you can put your chips into a small pot and place them in a larger pot or saucepan with an inch or two of boiling water.
STEP THREE
While you wait for the chocolate to melt, tear a large piece of wax paper and place it on a tray. The wax paper will be your work surface for making the flowers.
Make space in the refrigerator for the tray. Once you assemble the flowers, place the tray into the fridge to help solidify the chocolate centers.
STEP FOUR
Spoon the melted chocolate into a piping bag. You can use a plastic sandwich bag if you don't have a piping bag.
Push the melted chocolate to the corner of the bag and cut about a quarter inch off the tip.

STEP FIVE
Create dime-size dollops of melted white chocolate on your wax paper, a few inches apart. Each dollop should be only slightly bigger than a single M&M candy.

STEP SIX
Place the center candy in the middle of a dollop. Doing this will push the chocolate down and out and create a border of chocolate around it. Place the six-petal candies around the center candy, making sure each touches some of the white chocolate.

STEP SEVEN
Do not remove the flowers from the wax paper until the chocolate center is hard. Place the tray in the refrigerator to speed up the chocolate solidification.

STEP EIGHT
Once the white chocolate is solid, gently peel each flower from the wax paper. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator, with wax paper between each layer of flowers.
VARIATIONS OF M&M Flowers
WITH PRETZELS TWISTS UNDERNeATH
Another variation of this recipe is to use pretzel twists as a foundation for the flowers.
Place pretzel twists on an oven-safe tray, with one chocolate melting wafer on top of each pretzel. Warm for a few minutes in the oven. Once the chocolate melts, remove the tray from the oven and assemble the flower on top of the pretzels.
I make them without the pretzels for the following reasons:
- I have yet to discover pretzels that don't use enriched flour. (I don't trust enriched flour, do a quick search, and you'll learn why.)
- I don't love that chocolate-melting wafers typically have hydrogenated oils, fillers, and preservatives.
I prefer my version with just two ingredients. They look cuter without the bulky pretzel underneath and have fewer processed ingredients.
WITH ASSORTED M&M COLORS
M&M candies are available in different color assortments throughout the year. Try making these flowers with the following M&M colors:
- Red, pink, and white M&Ms for Valentine's Day
- Red, green, and white M&Ms for Christmas
- Original M&Ms for any occasion
- Choose single-color M&Ms for gender reveals, bridal or baby showers, the 4th of July, weddings, and more!
WITH DIFFERENT M&M FLAVORS
